How to Increase Internal Memory of Your Android Phone using CWM Recovery



Android is one of the most used and popular operating system for the mobile. Due to availability of more than 700000 apps it is popular amongst the people. Day by day several new apps are getting available for the android devices, but your limited internal memory restricts it to the certain limit.
Old Android phones have internal memory around 200 to 300 MB (Mega Bytes) unlike the latest one which have in few GB (Giga Bytes). Due to this limited memory, you cannot install more apps. This problem can be overcome by increasing internal memory of your mobile.
By partitioning external memory card of mobile, you can use it as an internal memory. With the help of link2SD app and memory card partition, you can increase internal memory as per your requirement. Different methods are available for partitioning memory card. But the most reliable method is CWM method as it works for any mobile or memory card.
Pre-requisites:
  • First of all your mobile must be charged at least up to 70% so that there will not be any interruption during memory card partition.
  • You must take a backup of memory card on your computer as all the data on the card gets erased during installation.
  • Your mobile/tablet must be rooted.
  • Install Link2SD app on the device from the play store.
  • Clockworkmod recovery must be installed on your mobile/tablet.
Procedure to Partition Memory Card:

  • First switch off your mobile and boot into recovery mode by any method or using appropriate key combination.
  • As we know that touch doesn’t work in most of the CWM, use volume keys for navigation and use power or home button for selection.
  • Select advanced option.
  • Then go to partition sdcard.
  • Select ext size. (Note: It should be less than your memory card size.)
  • It will take few minutes for partitioning SDcard.
  • After successful partitioning of sdcard select +++++go back+++++ then reboot system now.
Procedure to Configure Link2SD App:
  • Download and install latest version of Link2SD app from the play store.
  • Grant superuser permission for this app.
  • After granting superuser permission it will ask to choose file system of your second partition.
  • Select ext2 format.

  • After confirming the file system, it will ask to restart your phone. Do it.

  • After restarting phone, open Link2SD app again. Select filter option and the on internal.

  • You will see all the apps from internal memory.
  • Select options-> multi select. Select the apps that you want to move on that internal memory.
  • Choose action and then create link. Select all 3 options i.e. Link application file, Link dalvik cache file, Link library files. Then ok.

  • It will take few minutes for creating link to this partition.

  • Finally select ok. Now your all apps are moved to this partition.
  • Now in order to link every new app that you will download to this partition, select options and then auto link.
  • Now henceforth whenever you download app from the play store, it will get saved in this partition.
That’s it! You have successfully increased internal memory of your mobile. In order to see the status of this memory select option-> storage info.

Update HTC Desire with Jelly Bean based AOKP Custom ROM

Once upon a time, HTC Desire was the most popular Android phone available in the market. But now, it is quiet old & therefore it has been dropped out by HTC from software upgrading support. But you need not to be worried, as custom ROMs are there for you to provide taste of latest Android version on your HTC Desire. Thanks to developers (custom ROM makers) for paying continuous attention in ROM development for HTC Desire, which is resulted in another Jelly Bean 4.1 based custom ROM : AOKP to come out for it. Courtesy to XDA Senior Member  for putting his efforts in making AOKP ROM for the same.
AOKP is based on latest Android 4.1 Jelly bean, which offers lots of customizable functionality along with the features of Jelly Bean. That’s why,  it is getting more popular amongst the other custom ROMs available for the same. However, AOKP ROM is under development and features like USB Tethering & Video recording aren’t working yet properly. But if you are comfortable to go ahead with it then this might be the best ROM for you.
Disclaimer: The steps given in this article are considered to be risky & can cause damage to your device. You should not try to attempt these things if you aren’t aware of it. Pre-Requisites before installing a Custom ROM :
  • Charge your device up to 70% battery level so that installation procedure won’t be interrupted.
  • After applying this update, you are going to erase all the data stored on phone memory. Therefore, it is highly recommended to backup all your data from the same, which includes contacts, messages (SMS/MMS), call logs, Internet APNs etc.
  • Ensure that you have a custom recovery like clockworkmod installed on your phone
Procedure to Update HTC Desire with Jelly Bean based AOKP ROM :
  • Download latest version of AOKP ROM from official ROM development page (link is mentioned below) :
  1. AOKP custom ROM for  HTC Desire
  • Download Google Apps (Gmail, Maps, GTalk, Play Store etc.) which need to be flashed manually since they are not present in the ROM by default.
  1. Google Apps for Jelly Bean
  • After downloading ROM package & Google Apps, connect your phone to the PC. Enable mass storage mode to access SD card data & transfer both the files on it.
  • Disconnect the phone from computer & boot in recovery mode. For getting into the recovery mode, switch off the device, press & hold Volume Down button + Power key. You’ll be landed in bootloader/HBOOT mode. Now highlight recovery option using volume up/down keys & select it using power button.
  • After getting into CWM recovery, first & very essential step you need to do is take a nandroid backup of your current ROM so that it can be restored back (in case if anything goes wrong). To back up your current ROM, select Backup and Restore option from the recovery menu & on next screen, select backup. Now It will make a nandroid backup of whole system (excluding SD card). Wait for the backup process to get finished.
  • Select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition to wipe all the data & caches respectively from the phone memory.
  • Now Select “install zip from sdcard” & then “choose zip from sdcard“. Select the ROM file from the location where you’ve transferred it earlier & press on Yes to flash the ROM.
  • Wait for the ROM to get installed. After ROM gets successfully installed, your phone will land in the recovery mode.
  • Again select “install zip from sdcard” followed by “choose zip from sdcard” & this time navigate Google apps package file (gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip). Press on Yes to install Google Apps.
  • After flashing both the files, Select reboot system now to Restart the phone.

Tip: In case if you want to revert back to your previous ROM , enter into recovery mode (mentioned above). From the main menu, select Backup and Restore option & on next screen, select restore & choose the backup you would like to restore.
